A finance industry is a legal argument with a balance sheet
The Cayman Islands built its economy on one legal principle: your paperwork is valid here only if a Cayman court says so. The same architecture protects hosting. There is no data-retention legislation in Cayman — no statute obliges a hosting provider to keep traffic records, connection logs or customer correspondence. What we do not have, we cannot be made to produce.
Cayman is a British Overseas Territory with its own judiciary, its own Court of Appeal, and final recourse to the Privy Council in London. Foreign judgments do not execute automatically: a claimant must bring a fresh action before the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands and win on the merits under Cayman law. For civil copyright claims from the US or UK, that bar is essentially never cleared — the claims die in intake, unanswered, as they should.
The honest boundary: Cayman cooperates on genuine criminal matters — fraud, narcotics, terrorism financing — through its own courts and with real evidentiary thresholds. That boundary sits far outside anything a DMCA complaint mill can reach, and the finance industry's lobby keeps it well-policed. Your VPS is not a bank account, and nobody here will treat it like one without a judge's signature.
Legal highlights
- No data-retention law — nothing on the statute book obliges providers to log customer activity.
- British common-law courts — Grand Court of the Cayman Islands, own Court of Appeal, Privy Council final recourse.
- Foreign civil judgments not automatic — claimants must re-litigate from zero in George Town.
- 38 ms from Miami — Caribbean jurisdiction with US East Coast latency.
- Court order required — a Grand Court order only; DMCA notices are void here.

Who should pick the Cayman Islands
- Finance-adjacent infrastructure — trading-adjacent tooling, treasury dashboards, payment staging on the jurisdiction banks already trust.
- US East Coast and Caribbean users — Miami-adjacent latency with offshore paperwork.
- Anyone who wants the legally boring offshore option — three centuries of predictable courts, documented to death.

Cayman Islands, answered
The company registry gets the headlines, but the legal machinery underneath is what matters for hosting: no data-retention law, an independent common-law judiciary, and a strict rule that foreign civil claims start from zero in a Cayman court. Shell companies are one customer of that machinery. A VPS that must stay up is another.
On criminal matters — fraud, narcotics, terrorism financing — yes, through the Grand Court and with evidentiary thresholds, as any lawful jurisdiction does. On civil claims, including every DMCA notice ever sent: no, because there is nothing to cooperate through. A civil claimant needs its own Cayman action and a court order. We have never received one.
Cables. George Town lands on the Maya-1 and ARCOS-1 submarine rings, both of which route through Miami — 38 ms to New York, 72 to Los Angeles. Cayman is the rare offshore jurisdiction where the legal distance is maximal and the network distance is minimal. Verify it yourself against our looking glass.
