Game server hosting. Root for your modpack, shield for your players.
A public game server dies of two things: latency and kids with botnets. We can only fix one of those for you — so we did, with always-on 1 Tbps+ L3/L4 mitigation on every node — and we hand you full root and an unfiltered UDP path to fix the rest yourself.
- UDP-friendly — no filtering
- 1 Tbps+ DDoS always included
- Full root — mod anything
- EU peering, low latency
The two things that kill game servers
Latency first: game netcode lives or dies on round-trip time, and RTT is geography plus peering. Our European locations sit on dense exchanges — AMS-IX in Amsterdam, the best peering in Eastern Europe in Bucharest, the cheapest bandwidth in the EU in Sofia — so pick the city nearest your players and the pings take care of themselves.
Then the shield: a public server with a grudge attached gets DDoS'd as surely as it gets players. Some hosts sell mitigation as a $50 add-on and leave you naked until you pay. Ours is 1 Tbps+ of always-on L3/L4 filtering, included on every VPS in every location, because an unprotected game server is a liability to its neighbours, not just to you.
And the part hosting platforms try to take away: root. Install your own jars, plugins, mods, panel software — Pterodactyl if you want a dashboard, screen and a startup script if you do not. No "mod policy," no surcharge for UDP, no ticket asking permission to open a port.
What the box comes with
- Unfiltered UDP. No protocol filtering, no UDP throttling, no "gaming surcharge" — anywhere.
- 1 Tbps+ always-on mitigation. L3/L4 included free; optional L7 filter $4.99/mo.
- AMD EPYC 75F3/9654 nodes. Game servers live on single-thread speed; these chips have it.
- Unmetered on SV-Pro. Player peaks and world downloads don't eat a bandwidth cap.
- Test for pennies first. The hourly sandbox — SV-Nano at $0.009/hr, max 72 h — lets you benchmark a map before committing.
Three EU cities, three reasons
For game servers the location question is purely: where are your players? These three cover Europe with the best peering per dollar we have.
Netherlands — Amsterdam
The default for Western Europe: AMS-IX peering means single-digit pings for most of the continent, and a hosting tradition that keeps networks genuinely well-run.
- Standard tier
- from $5.99/mo
- SV-Pro unmetered · $19.99/mo
Bulgaria — Sofia
The cheapest bandwidth in the EU with excellent peering into the Balkans and Turkey. When your community sits east of Vienna, this is the node we point you to.
- Standard tier
- from $5.99/mo
- SV-Pro unmetered · $19.99/mo
Romania — Bucharest
The best peering in Eastern Europe and a decade-long culture of bandwidth-heavy hosting. A strong pick for communities spread across the former Eastern bloc.
- Standard tier
- from $5.99/mo
- SV-Pro unmetered · $19.99/mo
From deploy to whitelist in fifteen minutes
The short version — Java up, server jar down, one port open, and a firewall that keeps everything else closed.
# Ubuntu 24.04 — Paper MC
$ apt install openjdk-21-jre-headless
$ java -Xms6G -Xmx6G -jar paper.jar nogui
$ ufw allow 25565/udp && ufw enable
Checklist
- Pick by geography, not prestige. Amsterdam for the West, Bucharest or Sofia for the East — latency is physics, not marketing.
- Open only the game port (25565/udp for Minecraft, 28015/udp for Rust, 27015–27050 for Source games). The mitigation handles floods; your firewall handles curiosity.
- Harden the base OS first: the VPS hardening checklist — twenty minutes, then you never think about it again.
- Back up the world. Daily offsite snapshots are $1.99/mo — griefers and corrupted chunks forgive nothing else.
- Benchmark first: the $0.009/hr sandbox runs your exact modpack for pocket change before you pick a plan.
What this is not
- Not a managed panel. We sell the box, not babysitting. Pterodactyl, AMP or a tmux session — you install it, you own it.
- Not an L7 guarantee. The included shield is L3/L4. Application-layer attacks on your specific server are what the $4.99/mo L7 filter exists for.
- Not infinite CPU. Crypto mining is prohibited on shared nodes per the AUP — game workloads are welcome, miners are not.
If you want a one-click panel with a support agent restarting your server at 2 AM, a managed game host is the honest purchase and we will not pretend otherwise. If you want the box, the shield and your hands on the wheel — this is it. The players who complain about lag are the same ones who can read a timings report; give them a server worth reporting on.
SV-Core for vanilla, SV-Pro for modded
RAM decides how big your world can get; bandwidth decides whether a player peak feels like a launch or a bill. Unmetered wins for anything public.
| Server profile | Plan | RAM | Netherlands | Bulgaria |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small vanilla (≤15 players) | SV-Core · 2 vCPU | 4 GB | $10.99 | $10.99 |
| Modded / public (20–60) | SV-Pro · 4 vCPU | 8 GB | $19.99 | $19.99 |
| Big modpack / multi-server | SV-Max · 8 vCPU | 16 GB | $36.99 | $36.99 |
Full specs on the Linux VPS page; live per-location prices on the Amsterdam, Sofia and Bucharest location pages. Quarterly −10% · 6 months −30% · annual −50% — best value (e.g. SV-Pro: $19.99/mo → $9.99/mo equivalent billed annually).
Game server hosting, answered
No. Game traffic is UDP-heavy by design, and we apply no protocol filtering, no UDP throttling and no "gaming surcharge". You open the ports your server needs — 25565 for Minecraft, 28015 for Rust, 27015–27050 for Source-engine games — and traffic flows at the full port speed of your plan, 1 Gbps on every tier.
Yes — 1 Tbps+ of always-on L3/L4 mitigation is included on every VPS in every location, no add-on required. Public game servers attract denial-of-service attacks the way sugar attracts ants, and this is the one spec that matters more than CPU. For attacks targeting your application layer specifically, an optional L7 filter is available at $4.99/mo.
For a small vanilla server up to around fifteen players, SV-Core at $10.99/mo with 4 GB RAM is enough. Modded servers eat RAM — a public modded world or 20–60 players belongs on SV-Pro at $19.99/mo with 8 GB and, importantly, unmetered bandwidth for player peaks. Heavy modpacks or multi-server networks should look at SV-Max at $36.99/mo. Pick the location closest to your players: Amsterdam for Western Europe, Bucharest or Sofia for the East.
Your server, online before the next match.
Deploy in 55 seconds, open one UDP port, and let the always-on shield absorb the grudges. The fun part is yours.
